Not-Yet-Spring Layering
How to master the art of layering in 12 steps, when spring hasn’t quite bloomed (at least in New York City).

When I think of spring—just like fall—I think of layers. In spring, the color palette gets brighter and softer (think bold brights and dreamy pastels), we start playing with prints (florals are usually everywhere), and fabrics become lighter and more fluid. We swap scarves for bandanas, the beanie for a hair clip or a cap, and boots for Mary Janes or mules.
We can’t quite say spring has sprung in New York City yet, but we’re almost there. As we patiently dream of warmer days ahead, I wanted to share how I’m approaching the art of layering in this not-yet-spring season. Remember those old books where you cut out each garment and accessory to dress a paper mannequin? For the younger crowd, it’s basically like The Sims—or any video game where you styled your avatar.
Below, you’ll find some of my current obsessions and latest discoveries, in 12 steps. Let’s get dressed!
